Mojo Award winners Hawkwind to play Wolves Wulfrun

Well a few days after finding out they'll be named Mavericks at this years Mojo Awards, Hawkwind have announced a UK tour - and of course, they're coming to Wolverhampton!

My dad and uncle always spoke of them playing Wolverhampton "back in the day" ... I can quite imagine what the gig was like in those days, all psychedelia and acid rock, and of course, you could smoke inside venues too back them. Listening to these experimental stoner hippies, I'm sure it wasn't cigarettes being puffed!

Times have changed over this bands 40 year career but as Mojo Editor Phil Alexander explains, this band are noteworthy as they have "cut across genre, shattered taboos and (made) music on their own terms."

The Blood of the Earth tour comes to Wolverhampton on the 10th December - get your tickets here

Check out their classic track Silver Machine here, and yes, that is Lemmy from Motorhead on vocals (he was in one of the early line-ups!)

4 days to go til Florence and the Machine

COMING SOON

Well we're all very excited here at the Wolves Civic about the imminent arrival of flame haired songstress Florence and the Machine

This week nominated for FOUR Mojo Awards (for Best Album, Breakthrough Artist, Best Song and most importantly, Best Live) she is one of the hot performers of the moment.

So is her show all it's hyped up to be?

We checked out a few of the reviews for the opening night of this current tour, and I think it's fair to say Monday's and Tuesday's sold out shows at the Civic are going to be fantastic ...
