Mayhem freaks and anarchic violinists - Circus of Horror and Emilie Autumn

If you're a fan of the weird, wonderful and downright disturbing then welcome to Wolverhampton this week, freaks!

First up - the chaotic and colourful clash of gothic-lovely Emilie Autumn. Singer, songwriter, anarchic violinist - this is a

It amazing to think that this theatre company has been touring for 15 years, and I haven't been dragged along to it yet!

Here come the girls: Florence and the Machine, Amy Macdonald andd Erica Nockalls (with Miles Hunt)

Well all kinds of goings-on at The Civic Hall, Wulfrun and Little Civic this week!

Lets start with some great news just in. The WolvesCivic blog (that's us) will be interviewing ex The Wonder Stuff Miles Hunt and Erica Nockalls on Saturday night ahead of their show at The Little Civic. It'll be a video interview so stay tuned for that right here!

Oh, and fans of The Wonder Stuff might be interested in this - a new triple-disc issue of the bands classic album HUP, including a live DVD of their live show in Birmingham back in December. Meanwhile singer songwriter Amy Macdonald has just been confirmed for a show at the Wufrun Hall on Saturday 4th April ... tickets go on sale on Friday at 9am priced £20.50!

Recently Amy performed on Simon Mayo's Radio 2 show - watch her cover The Jam's A Town Called Malice, HERE

Paul Weller appeared on Amy's album, which is released in March. There has been some speculation about the title, but she DID let slip one of the possible titles during a recent interview. We'll have to wait to see if "A Curious Thing" makes theshortlist


And finally, as was announced earlier this week - Florence and the Machine will be doing not one, but TWO shows at the Civic Hall on 10th and 11th May. These tickets are available on Friday too, so get in quick as the fan club presale ones have been selling like hot cakes!

Florence and the Machine for Wolves show


We're all very exited about this one - Florence and the Machine coming to Wolverhampton

The triple Brit Award winner, who playing the NME tour in Birmingham last year, is back with her own Cosmic Love Tour. It's a bit of a victory for us too, as she's only doing 5 dates in all, TWO of them here (10th and 11th May)

Battle of the Bands latest ....

Well done to PeopleAreThings!, Facade and Follow the Fallen, winners of their heats over the weekend! They all go through to the semi finals!

Heats will run through January and February, with the final on Saturday 17th April, with the winner walking off with £1000, a free recording session at M2 Studio, a photo shoot with a professional photographer, a bespoke website designed and hosted by Surge Music and more goodies!!

Bands will be judged on Presentation/Delivery, Songwriting, Originality, Vibe and Audience Reaction with bonus points awarded for every 10 tickets they sell.

And the best news - there is still a chance to take part in the Battle of the Bands competition -get your applications in to phil@wolvescivic.co.uk now!!

Music loses Pendergrass and Reatard

Sad news overnight, as 2 more well loved performers have died.

R'n'B musician Teddy Pendergrass, who was 59, had been suffering from colon cancer but died from complications during his recovery from surgery.

Described as one of the pioneers of black music, he performer the track "If You Don't Know Me My Now" (later covered by Simply Red) and during his career picked up 5 Grammy nominations



Garage punk Jay Reatard died in his sleep at his home in Memphis on 13th January 2010.

Described by his record label as "being as full of life as anyone we've ever met", Reatard, real name Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr, released 22 full-length albums and over 100 releases in total.

The Feeder boys have bounced back from their record label going under last year, and are now following in the footsteps of Radiohead, Ash and others, and releasing their music themselves.

Delphic 6Music session plus Mirrors EP news and video


Current darlings of the music world Delphic recently recorded a session for 6 Music

The band who hit the Little Civic on the 20th January (tickets here) played 2 tracks at the BBC's Maida Vale studios ...

Meanwhile Mirrors, who will be supporting them at the Wolverhampton show, have been speaking themselves.

Speaking to Altsounds they announced their first EP via Skint Records, which will be a series of remixes, including the tracks ‘Look At Me’ (check the video below), ‘Somewhere Strange’, ‘Into The Heart’ and ‘Lights and Offerings’. They're also working on an album which will be out later this year.

Evile: first picture with new bassist + video interview


Evile have posted their first picture with new bassist, Joel Graham who joins the band to replace Mike Alexander, who tragically died on tour, aged 32

He's previously played with Yorkshire metallers Rise to Addiction.

Extreme metal supergroup Lock Up, featuring Napalm Death's Shane Embury say they're working on a new album

The outfit, also featuring Tomas Lindberg from At the Gates, Nick Barker from Cradle of Filth and Anton Reisenegger from Pentagram and Criminal, have also announced some live shows in mainland Europe

Zeppelin's Page plans new music

With any hope of more-permanent Led Zeppelin reunion fading fast, guitarist Jimmy Page is planning to work on some new music alone.

Ever since the legendary outfit performed a one off show at the O2 Arena in 2007, fans have been desperate for some more long-term plans but singer Robert Plant, busy now working with Alison Krauss, had distanced himself from the reports.

Page, not to be disheartened, has announced that it is important for him to make some new music -watch this space!
